The Workshop

acting on camera

Acting on camera:

  • Shoot professionally, on location, the scripts you work in class
  • Learn, hands-on, why energy distribution on a set is key
  • Do a cold read, scene break-down, rehearse and shoot in class under realistic time-pressure
  • Different shot terminology and their importance to a performance
  • Continuity: How to stay consistent with each take for editing purposes and still maintain your truthfulness
  • Tone down your performance for the camera. What does it truly mean?
  • What does finding your mark mean and why is it important for your acting?
  • You also get to work behind the camera for two reasons (optional):
    1. In order to be a more complete actor in front of the camera it is valuable to know the basic operations & terminology of a camera
    2. You will acquire the knowledge to be able to create your own content, a crucial skill the way social media and the industry evolves
  • A session on editing is included in the workshop to better comprehend how a performance is translated onto the screen.
  • The workshop is run by working professionals.

ADULT CLASSES

  • Limited to 12 students per class.
  • Students receive the scripts of three scenes that will be used in class (comedy, thriller & drama) a week prior to the workshop
  • The workshop runs for 3 hours per day. (7 pm to 10 pm)
  • Videos by masters of the craft as well as selected scenes from known films will be screened and analyzed in class
  • All students get to perform in class as well as having a lead role in the new scenes that will be written for them and will be filmed on location

KIDS/TEENS CLASSES

  • CHILD ACTORS (7-11)
  • TEEN ACTORS   (12 – 17)
  • Limited to 6 students per class
  • We have an open door policy for parents.
  • Students receive the scripts of a scene that will be used in class a week prior to the workshop
  • The workshop runs for 2 hours per day, during three weekends.
  • All students get a main part in one of the short films they’ll be cast in.
  • Students work in two groups of three. Each group works in its own screenplay that will be filmed during the last weekend of the workshop.
  • Filming during production lasts 4 to 6 hours per day.
